KS5 Course Intro:

The study of English Literature at A Level can be exciting, challenging and surprising. There is a great variety of texts studied, from poetry to prose to plays to propaganda. There is the opportunity to debate, argue and give your opinions as develop independent learning skills needed for your future, especially degree courses in a range of subjects.


AS English Literature - AQA A - The Literature of the First World War

Unit 1: Texts in Context

For the written exam, you will study an anthology of poetry and respond to an unseen non-fiction extract.

Unit 2: Creative Study

For your coursework, you will be reading prose fiction and drama texts and producing two pieces of coursework.


A2 English Literature - AQA A - Love Through the Ages

Unit 3: Reading for Meaning

You will be required to study three texts (prose, poetry and drama) on the theme of Love Through the Ages for the written exam. The exam is worth 60%.

Unit 4: Extended Essay and Shakespeare Study

You will be required to write an extended essay of 3,000 words comparing three approved texts, one of the texts must be a Shakespearean play. The coursework is worth 40%.
