KS4 Curriculum Intro:

This is designed to enable students to learn about expressing ideas in dramatic form. Improvisation and group work are important elements of the course. Students will work in different roles, characters and situations using movement and voice. Students will have an opportunity to present work to others.

Assessment is 60% Working with text, students are graded on their ability to communicate meaning to others through developing drama and their ability to evaluate the effectiveness of drama work. Evidence of knowledge and understanding will be demonstrated through work during the lesson, performances to others and written course work. 40% Final devised performance.

The basics

Students explore different drama conventions and how they are used to help create meaning within a performance. Looking at different starting points for drama and exploring the theme. Consider how a plot develops through use of explorative strategies. Using a selection of texts students develop a performance for an audience. Performance skills are developed.

Students will study the play Blood Brothers They will work in groups of various sizes and take on a number of different roles. They will demonstrate a creative and appropriate use of space, movement and language will focus their exploration of the play on both elements of drama and drama mediums. Students perform devised pieces, sections of the play, discuss and evaluate their work throughout the unit. Students will also take part in a theatre trip to see Blood Brothers and complete a theatre review as well as detailed notes on each lesson should be kept.

This unit will make up 30% of their final GCSE Grade.
