KS4 Curriculum Intro:

Pupils can choose Resistant Materials or Graphics.

Both courses allow pupils the opportunity to experience a full range of tasks including researching, evaluating, problem solving, designing, making and evaluating. In addition to this pupils will be taught skills relevant to the specific subject.

Both courses are assessed in four units outlined below:-

Unit 1:- Introduction to design and making

Unit 2:- Sustainability

Unit 3:- Designing and making quality products

Unit 4 :-Technical Aspects of designing and making

Units 1 and 3 equal 60% of the final grade and are controlled assessment projects

Units 2 and 4 equal 40% of the final grade and are examinations

Y10

Pupils study for the sustainability exam which is sat in January of their year 10

Pupils start their controlled assessment (unit 1) preparation and also start work on their controlled assessment projects.

Pupils complete their controlled assessments ready for submission at the beginning of May

Pupils start studying for their Technical Aspects of Designing and Making exam

Y11

Pupils complete studying for their Technical Aspects of Designing and Making

Pupils start the preparation for their second controlled assessment (unit 3).

Pupils complete their controlled assessment and submit it for marking

Pupils work on any module they wish to re-sit or resubmit.

All pupils complete a comprehensive revision programme tailored to the exam or re-sit they are taking in June
