Faculty Introduction:

We aim to make learning a modern foreign language a pleasant and successful experience. We encourage an awareness of the language learning process and hope to make the learning of other languages easier at a later stage in life. We aim to introduce our students to social and cultural aspects of French, and Spanish speaking countries, and thereby encourage an understanding of, and positive attitudes towards other cultures.

In our teaching we aim to provide a lively and stimulating approach towards learning languages, with an awareness of the opportunities provided in the Programme of Study and the Framework for MFL.

At KS3, all students study French and Spanish.

Modern Foreign Languages are optional at Key Stage 4. Pupils may choose to study French or Spanish, or both, at GCSE level.

Non-curriculum Modern Foreign Languages

We actively encourage our pupils to take a GCSE examination in their own language e.g. Portuguese, Greek, Turkish, Gujarati, which are available through The Totteridge Academy’s EAL department.
