Plenty of Grade 9s to Celebrate at The Totteridge Academy for GCSE Results Day
The Totteridge Academy was buzzing with excitement again today as Year 11s learnt how their hard work had paid off at GCSEs.
This year, there were improvements in the percentage of students achieving both English and maths at Grade 5 or above – rising to nearly three quarters of the year group (74%). This was mirrored in the increase in the percentage of students achieving a Grade 7 or higher in the two subjects, up eight percentage points from last year’s figures to 41% for 2026’s Year 11s.
In fact, 46% of all GCSE grades awarded to TTA students this year were a Grade 7 or higher, reflecting the ambition across the year group.
Alongside the impressive set of results across the cohort were similar successes enjoyed by individual students. This included Anoush M and Sophia O, who were both absolutely thrilled to receive a clean sweep of Grade 9s.
Anoush M said:
“This really is amazing – I’m so happy. It’s taken a lot of hard work, but when you get these results it’s so worth it. I’m grateful to my teachers and looking forward to starting my A Levels at TTA soon!”
Sophia O added:
“The energy at TTA today is buzzing and everyone is so happy and relieved that our hard work paid off. I can’t believe I got all Grade 9s in the end – thanks to all the staff for everything they’ve done to help us achieve this.”
Also celebrating a raft of Grade 9s were:
Sammie M, who achieved eight Grade 9s and one Grade 8;
Martha D, Alexis N and Ben P, who each achieved seven Grade 9s and two Grade 8s;
Kiran S, who achieved seven Grade 9s, one Grade 8 and one Grade 7;
Thomas B, Mariia D and Mathias L, who each achieved six Grade 9, two Grade 8s and one Grade 7.
A large proportion of the year group will soon be preparing to return to The Totteridge Academy’s Sixth Form which celebrated its own excellent results last week at A Level. With two in five (41%) of this year’s A Level entries achieved A* to A grades, Year 13 students secured some exceptional destinations including at Oxbridge and top UK universities.
Reflecting on students’ achievements, Chris Fairbairn, Principal at The Totteridge Academy, said:
“It is always brilliant to have seen students grow up, flourish and excel – from their first day in Year 7 through to the end of their GCSE courses. This is of course just one milestone of many to come for them, and I have no doubt that these Year 11s will use today’s successes as fuel for the next stages of their lives and education.
“At The Totteridge Academy we treat hard work, ambition and self-belief as the norm and these students all share in that mindset and approach. That is a credit to them, as well as to staff who support them every step of the way. Congratulations to the whole TTA staff team, to parents and families, and of course to this fantastic group of Year 11s.”
Tom Knott, who will be succeeding Chris Fairbairn as Principal from September, added:

There have been some highly impressive individual and group performances this year which, as ever, we will continue to build upon as we head into a new academic year.”
